Description
Both Lawufa’s parents are alive; however, the father - an Imam (leader) in the mosque – has two wives and Lawufa’s mother is the least favorite of the two. He doesn’t help with Luwafa’s school expenses because he doesn’t value an education. Furthermore, without an education Lawufa could be married off before 18 years old. Lawufa’s mom is therefore, the sole caretaker. She raises money by selling vegetables for other people. Farmers give her the vegetables in the morning; she then moves from home to home selling them for a small profit. Lawufa is a very happy child who enjoys learning.
